To accommodate the ever increasing number of patients visiting the UTC a new initial treatment room has been opened today. The space was created by moving the UTC reception to the hospital atrium. The way patients access the UTC has also changed, with patients now using the Lymington hospital main entrance doors to get to the UTC.

In addition to the creation of extra capacity, the UTC are now running a new ‘See and Treat’ model to help patient flow and reduce patient waiting times. The UTC recognises the importance of adapting and flexing resources to meet the ever-changing healthcare setting while also supporting practitioners’ development with the introduction of new innovative roles that attract clinicians to work the UTC team.
Mandy Hawkins, UTC Service Manager said “I’m delighted to have worked in collaboration with NHS Trust, Southern Health to repurpose the reception room to create more clinical treatment space at the UTC. This will result in faster treatment times, shorter wait times for patients and overall better patient care.“
Ross Brand PHL Group CEO said “I am proud to see the UTC grow from strength to strength, always innovating to find solutions to improve patient care and preparing for the increased patient numbers that are expected during the summer months.“
The Lymington Hospital Friends have designed and funded new hospital signs, to ensure people can find the department quickly. The purple UTC signage has been installed throughout the hospital to support patients getting to the new UTC reception.
Patients are recommended to use the right service and visit an Emergency Departments if they are experiencing choking, check pain, blacking out and serious blood loss. Patients should visit the UTC for recent breaks, sprains, cuts, grazes and minor illnesses.
