New Out of Hours Clinic and ARI Hub Services

PHL Group is delighted to announce two new healthcare services that are live in Hampshire this January.

Winchester Out-of-Hours Clinic

Based in Winchester Hospital, PHL provide an Out of Hours Clinic for NHS patients, open weekday evenings and all day during the weekend. The service sees patients who contact PHL via the Clinical Assessment Service and following assessment are deemed to require a face-to-face consultation.

The clinic are based near the Emergency Department, meaning that PHL are on hand to support our Emergency Department colleagues when it may be more appropriate for our clinician to see a patient, than the Emergency Department staff.

This new service is a brilliant additional endpoint for our CAS team, who are managing an exceptional caseload during the winter pressures.

Lymington ARI Hub

PHL Group has re-opened the portable “hub” which is located next door to the Lymington Urgent Treatment Centre, operating as a new Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) Hub Service.

An Acute Respiratory Infection hub model is a systematic approach that provides timely and appropriate care to individuals , which helps reduce pressure on other parts of the system this winter.

PHL ARI Hub described as 'life-savers' by local GP Practices

This new service will support patients with urgent clinical needs by providing same day, face-to-face assessment, treatment and education for patients with suspected acute respiratory infections. The hub model may be best suited to those with acute, episodic needs, reducing the burden of acute respiratory illness on primary care and providing more time for practice teams to support patients where continuity of care is most important. It will seek to reduce ambulance callouts, A&E attendances and hospital admissions for patients who could be appropriately managed in the community.

Local GP Practices in the New Forest can directly book patients with Acute Respiratory conditions for a face-to-face appointment with our clinicians. The sessions are typically 12-6 pm weekdays and will be a fantastic support service for GP practices that are overwhelmed with patients presenting with these conditions to their surgeries.

The combination of the Flu, Covid, Strep A and other typical winter illnesses has made this winter particularly challenging for healthcare systems, and their patients. New challenges and extreme pressures are resulting in innovative services such as these. With these two new services, PHL hope to relieve pressures on GP Practices and the NHS, keeping people out of hospital and conserving NHS resources.
