Our contact centre delivers a Paediatric Clinical Assessment Service, which runs between 10:00 and 22:00, 7 days a week and is led by the clinical management team.
Our Paediatric desk plays an important role in supporting parents, carers and young people, whilst reducing ED admissions by providing dedicated clinical assessment services for paediatric cases. Staffed by a dedicated team of qualified paediatric nurses, our paediatric desk reviews any case which would fall within PHL’s Clinical Assessment Service for children under the age of 18.
PHL works in partnership with South Central Ambulance Service 111 to help patients receive the right treatment, by the right clinician, in the most suitable healthcare setting. The 111 First service was introduced during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic to support emergency departments (EDs) and Ambulance services.

GoodSAM one-way video
We use an incredible piece of technology called GoodSAM to support our Paediatric Clinical Assessment Service.
With GoodSAM, our paediatric team can text a link to the caller, which will initiate a 1-way video call. Our qualified paediatric nurses use the 1-way video call to get an instant opinion on the patient’s health, whether they are experiencing sickness, or have an injury.

Healthier Together
The resources on the Healthier Together website have been developed in partnership between parents and healthcare professionals from across Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. You’ll find clear information on common illnesses, including advice on what serious ‘red-flag’ signs to look out for, where to seek help if required, what you should do to keep comfortable and how long symptoms are likely to last.
