Hampshire Healthcare Company to provide Custody Healthcare Service to County Constabulary
PHL have successfully won a tender to become the new provider of the Hampshire Constabulary Custody Healthcare Service from January 2019.
The service is to provide healthcare provision within the custody environment across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, serving the entire region but specifically custody suites in Portsmouth, Southampton, Basingstoke and Newport, Isle of Wight.
“We are absolutely delighted to secure the contract to work in partnership with Hampshire Constabulary to offer high quality, safe, and effective solutions to detainees requiring medical care” says PHL’s Chief Executive Officer, Ross Brand. “We will build upon the existing talent within the clinical team transferring to PHL and embed this within our diverse clinical workforce that already offer innovative and compassionate care to the residents of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, through our various daytime and out of hours services”.
Chief Inspector Jim Pegler, said: “We are pleased to announce the awarding of the Hampshire Constabulary custody medical contract to PHL. The provision of medical care to people detained in our custody blocks is a key part of the service we deliver. An important aspect of the new contract is that we will monitor the effectiveness of linking immediate care to ongoing medical or support services. We recognise that many people who are come into our custody have complex needs and we need to work with partners to help them make changes to their lifestyles.
A spokesperson for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner said: “The Police and Crime Commissioner has ownership and management of the police estate for Hampshire Constabulary. The PCC’s estate strategy underpins effective delivery of modern policing now and into the future.”
PHL is a Hampshire based provider of urgent, acute and primary care services across the county, serving two million people, dealing with over 200,000 patient care episodes per year, in their Urgent Care Services. PHL will incorporate the Hampshire Custody Healthcare Service within its Integrated Care division, with the new service benefiting from quick access to additional clinical support and guidance available within its 24/7 Clinical Services.
